The wrong scheme in the wrong place

The vast Mynydd Mawr Energy Park will make profit for developers and investors – while threatening livelihoods, damaging the health of residents, and decimating forever an ancient landscape.

Galileo want you to think it’s green – it isn’t. They want you to think it will benefit the community and the area. It won’t.

Other alternative energy schemes offer the same climate benefits without the cost to nature or the people who live here.

The proposed scheme isn’t an “energy park” - it’s a vast industrial installation.

The turbines are immense – three times the height of Pistyll Rhaeadr and as tall as the third-tallest building in London. There will be 21 of them, in addition to acres of solar panels.

Apart from devastating wildlife and habitats irreparably, the turbines will dominate the lives of everyone in the western Tanat and Ceiriog valleys. Visible for at least 20 miles, they will create endless noise, overwhelm local infrastructure, disrupt local businesses, and effectively end tourism.

This is one of many speculative proposals put forward by this developer. To them this special place is nothing more than a commercial opportunity.

The landscape between Llanrhaeadr and Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog is precious, and has been shaped for hundreds of years by people who have loved and cared for it, The Mynydd Mawr Energy Park proposals threaten to wipe out that hard work and dedication forever - not for the collective good but for profit.

If the proposals are realised, Galileo and their investors will profit. The community, and all future communities, will lose something that cannot be replaced or restored.

Bad for Mynydd Mawr.

Bad for the community.

Bad for Wales.

This website is a work in progress. In the coming days we’ll be adding content about the extent of the scheme, and all the reasons to oppose it.
